Oviedo High School’s Varsity Winter Guard delivered a historic performance at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio this past weekend. They earned a score of 98.15, which is the highest in program history by 6 points. They were crowned Open Class Champions and are #1 in the nation, which is the first time in our school's history. With this incredible achievement, they will move up to compete in Scholastic World Class next year, which is the highest level you can compete in out of the 8 classes. The Department of Teaching and Learning is excited to share that Team Seminole finished as state runner up in Division I of the 39th annual Commissioner's Academic Challenge, held April 9-11, 2026 at Universal Orlando. Made up of players from across the district and coached by Ms. Nikki DeRosa of Seminole High School, they powered through several rounds of stiff, fast-breaking competition to answer questions about language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts and world languages. Adhip Maitra has been nominated to participate in the United States National Chemistry Olympiad. The event will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Holy Trinity School in Melbourne. Good luck Adhip!

Congratulations to our rowers! Tyler Dacosta and Wyatt Mahon came through the qualifying rounds with the fastest over all time in their category for states. In the finals they faced some stiff competition and even stiffer winds, which are not a rowers' friend. They finished 5th in the State and qualified for the Scholastic National Championships which will be held in Oak Ridge, TN over Memorial Day weekend. Congratulations and Go Lions!

For the 2026-2027 school year Oviedo High School will only be able to accommodate course change requests from April 15th through May 15th. After May 15th students will not be able to change their course requests. It is imperative that you review the courses currently requested in Skyward NOW – both your elective choices and your core course recommendations from teachers - and verify that they are accurate before May 15th. If you would like to modify your requests, you must use the Google Request Change Form link that was provided, and submit it before May 15th.
Schedules released on August 1st, 2026 are final. We will no longer be offering schedule change requests prior to the start of school. Schedule changes will not be allowed until August 13th but only in extreme circumstances.

OHS is in need of SAC members. If your student is attending OHS in the fall, we'd love you to join our SAC. We meet once a month on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. Our meetings are usually an hour or less.

We are doing tickets like Homecoming where there will be a "badge" on MINGA. Gray prom 2026 Badge means your ticket is good. Red prom 2026 means your guest is good. Your receipt will be extremely helpful to you if there are any issues.

This week we are proud to recognize Lisa Van Smith for her outstanding dedication to students and to the Oviedo High School community.
Lisa consistently goes above and beyond for her students by providing a hands-on, engaging program that builds real-world skills and meaningful learning experiences. Her students not only learn in the classroom but also shine when representing OHS beyond it.
Most recently, Lisa and her students hosted the Realtors’ visit to OHS, preparing food and welcoming guests with professionalism and pride. Their hospitality and organization were exceptional and left a lasting positive impression on everyone involved.
Lisa and her students also play a key role in supporting Project Graduation, once again creating the cupcakes that help make this important event a major fundraiser for PTSA.
Through her commitment, creativity, and tireless support of student opportunities, Lisa Van Smith exemplifies excellence in teaching and service. Congratulations on being named Teacher of the Week—and thank you for all you do for OHS!
