Congratulations to Evelyn Yifan Xia for being recognized as a Top 300 finalist in the Thermo Fisher Innovator Challenge. She joins us from Sanford Middle School where she placed best-in-fair in the SCPS Regional Science Fair, was a Lockheed Martin Science Challenge winner in Chemistry, and 2nd Place in the state of Florida for her work in revolutionizing nanoparticle development. As scientists are currently aiming to create more effective drugs and delivery methods, gold nanoparticles have become the most preferred. However, they are currently solid and spherical in shape, which means they are relatively costly to develop. Evelyn's work focused on making gold-nickel alloy nanoparticles that were hollow, thereby reducing materials and using more affordable metal alternatives. Evelyn is continuing her line of work here as a freshman at Oviedo in both Experimental Science Honors and AP Seminar. The Top 30 finalists will be announced next week where they will compete for a combined $100,000 in prize money. Best of luck, Evelyn!

Homecoming tickets will go on sale September 14 through October 9 for $45 per ticket. Students may purchase tickets through MySchoolBucks and must meet the Oviedo High School attendance policy requirements to be eligible to attend the dance.
